Since its important that reflections are penned down, we've started a blog , with Mr Malek's help. Frankly, this year has been a crazy year for me , be it my personal and my professional life. I find that work pace is getting too fast. Wondering if its age that's making me slow... Well, back to Year Head issues...
Most of the classes have settled down. In fact, they've already started to show their true colours. The classes that's a problem is 112, 113 and 121. I must thank the FMs for trying so hard- so much paperwork. I must also highlight that most of the FMs did not type in the offences into the system as was required, so that data is easily accessible by all. Although its a good idea, the teachers find it an extra chore esp. for classes whose offences are committed practically everyday. Maybe the YHs need to look into this among many others....Wondering whether file and hardcopies are enough for now(provided its easily accessible). Typing into the computer can be done during the June and Dec break...
Thanks, Malek, for getting this blog up for us. We (The YHs) need a means of writing our thoughts down and a blog seems the perfect answer.
The year started quite well, I must say, although I was a little apprehensive - what with my group of students sitting for their major exams at the end of the year. The feeling is not altogether new to me since three of my own children had sat for the same 'O' level exams before. What makes it worse this time is that instead of one child, I have about 400 children to worry about! Phew!!
The MTP we had in Term 1 was useful, I thought. Many parents were grateful that we had that meeting. They took the opportunity to clear doubts and worries that have. I'm glad. I am also pleased that the second MTP, although done on a smaller scale, met its objectives. The teachers had the opportunity to have a personal one-to-one session with the parents to give feedback on their child's performance. Many parents insisted on speaking with the FMs even when told that they did not have to stay. Sure says alot about 'our' parents! :)
Personally, I'm nervous about the coming exams. I don't know if these kids are as nervous as I am. Perhaps not.I guess it has a lot to do with being young....Perhaps they'll wisen up soon enough. I hope.:)
Thinking about what was discussed during our follow-up meet for the A,B,E list. The problems of basic needs not met by our students may be out of our circle of influence. BUT, we do not know for sure... If the basic needs is to belong, to be heard, then the adoption programme may actually address this issue. We need to also get the FTSC to give us simple tips to be good 'adopters' because we cannot be too emotionally involved...
